1825 (Dec. 14), Folded Letter from Troy, Mass, to Ellsworth, State of Maine, an appealing scalloped cancel with manuscript "Dec 14", with 18¾ rating; from the brief period in the early 1800s when Fall River, MA changed its name to Troy (reverting several years later); normal wear and coloration for the period, Very Fine, few survive, giving this cancel a scarcity value of 8 out of 10. "20" (cents) and "9" (pence), manuscript "pd. to N. York Box 160" at top, part of the famed Kennedy correspondence to New York City, Very Fine, ex Susan McDonald with original lot card from 1996 auction and notes on back it also appeared in a 1969 HR Harmer sale and on page 67 of Winthrop S.
