image Office of the Contractors of the Union Pacific Railway Co., Eastern Division. Printed 1863 letterhead enclosure with interesting content "…wrote the last letter while in the Army of California. I resigned from the Army one year ago. I left for N. York last February and reached Kansas last September and think I shall get as Iowa by next spring … I am now engaged in the office of the R. R. Co. heading this letter. We have some 1,000 hands to work and pay them $1.50 per day, cash, every 30 days. Very good wages for the western country. I worked T. G. Hovey for 75 cents per day when there. I now get $75 per month and boarded, some better. I am promised the 2nd train as a conductor, if I will remain on the road…", original yellow cover with "Wyandotte Kas. Magenta exchange cds on blue 1869 folded letter to Liverpool, England bearing 12¢ black, E grill (90) tied by fancy radial cancel, endorsed "pr Overland Mail", carried by NGL Line Donau from New York May 6th to Southampton arriving May 17th, red London Paid (5.17) transit cds, Liverpool (5.17) arrival backstamp; some soiling and stamp with small internal crease, F.-V.F. and interesting content, with 2020 P.F. certificate.

Excellent transcontinental railroad content, "…Great events are expected on the completion of the Pacific Railroad which will be in about 20 days. The 1st train through the United States is looked for on July 4th, which will be the occasion of a grand jubilee." The railroad's completion would come only 17 days later with the ceremonial spike at Promontory on May 10th.
