THE FINEST AND EARLIEST OF FIVE KNOWN EXAMPLES OF THE WATERBURY CT. "JACK OF HEARTS" CANCELLATION AND THE ONLY EXAMPLE BEARING THE NEGATIVE LETTERS.

The William T. Crowe certificate reads in part…"The stamp is tied by a superb strike of the fancy Circle of Six Hearts cancellation. The Crowe census has recorded only five examples of this cancellation on cover used between Feb 1 and May 12 1869. Unlike the other four covers this strike shows the negative letters inside the hearts (not noted by Rohloff)."
