A UNIQUE PROGRESSIVE ESSAY OF THE UNADOPTED 1861 1¢ FRANKLIN DESIGN IN BLUE.

Six unique progressive essays exist of this unadopted 1861 design. Two examples are in black (one offered here) and four in blue. However the 63-E6 is incorrectly listed in Scott as a die proof on old paper. Instead, this essay is composed of 1857 1¢ issue cut down and backed on cardboard with similar pencil numerals in corners.
