Sep 21" route agents's c.d.s. at top center (Remele #B8-b), to Chester Factories Mass., Extremely Fine and choice a beautiful railroad cover.

image 1847, 5¢ red brown (Scott 1), huge margins including a tiny bit of the stamp at top right to clear at bottom left, outstanding color and impression, tied by two striped of unusual bold red 6-bar rectangular grid cancels on 1848 folded letter from Falls Village, Conn. to New York, with matching red "Housatonic Railroad/5" integral route agent handstamp marking at right (Remele #H4-e); cover has been cleaned and pressed, stamp removed and inaccurately replaced with position of the tying postmark at bottom painted in according to accompanying certificate, Fine to Very Fine, ex-Matthies, Kapiloff and Caspary, with photocopy of 1999 P.F. certificate.

image 1847, 10¢ black (Scott 2), pos. 68L1, a beautiful example with a crease at top left ending in a tiny tear at top center, with detailed impression and strong color, the margins show some of the adjoining stamp at bottom while the other side are large to huge, tied to immaculate blue folded entire by lovely red grid cancel, perfectly struck "STEAM BOAT" handstamp and red "New-York/Dec 24" c.d.s. to left establish the fact that this doubly rated cover originated from a port on the East Coast and traveled by a coastal steamer via New York to its Philadelphia destination, Extremely Fine despite a few faults still a gorgeous cover, ex-Gibson, signed Stanley B. Ashbrook, with 1999 P.F. certificate.
