Stevenson, Picton, Canada West, noted "Paid to the Lines", crossed at the Queenston/Lewiston exchange office, with OCT 26 1848 double split-ring transit, "9" pence in manuscript being the amount due for domestic Canadian postage, endorsed "if not at Picton try Kingston, Canada," a fine cross-border cover, with 2019 P.F. certificate.New York-born David Barker Stevenson was a significant figure in Prince Edward County, Upper Canada, both for his business as well as political interests. A Conservative and ally of Sir John A. MacDonald (who represented Kingston, and was later Canada's first Prime Minister), Stevenson was elected in 1848 to represent Picton in the Third Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada.
