Militia]; franked with a 3¢ rose tied by a Williamsport Md. c.d.s., Apr 6 (1862) and sent originally to Camp Chase with examiner's "Ex Gray" and "2" & "5" in pencil, not found at Camp Chase, so forwarded to Johnson's Island, Sandusky, O. with a May 17 Sandusky c.d.s. and handstamped "DUE 3" used to send it back to Columbus to the Lunatic Asylum; soiled an damp stained, the stamp with worm damage. The only reported usage to the Lunatic Asylum.


The
Official Records note that the Lunatic Asylum was used from time to time to house "indigent" prisoners who were as a form of parole.

In the long, partly damp stained letter, Wilson's wife writes of her intention to sell their home and move herself and her children to Ohio to be near her husband.
