image Camp Boyd - Louisville, Ky., Adversity cover, used twice; first used to Pvt. William L. Martin [3rd Ga. Cavalry], a P.O.W. at Camp Chase, Columbus, O.; that address was erased, the cover inverted, and re-used from Camp Chase to Lt. Alfred Z. Boyer, a P.O.W. at Camp Boyd, Louisville, Ky. 3¢ rose tied by a target cancel alongside a partial Columbus, O. c.d.s., Oct 8 (1863); manuscript "Examd E.L. Webber Lt Col 88th 0.V.J." by prison commander; soiled, stamp slightly damaged and faded, Fine. One of only three known covers to or from the prison at Camp Boyd.


Boyer was sentenced to hang, but his sentence was commuted when he took the oath of allegiance.

(Leap Year date on P.O.W. mail is extremely rare); addressed to Pamplins Depot SSRR (South Side Rail Road), Va.; small stains in the left corners, opening tear to the left of the pair, reduced a bit at the right - all insignificant when considering the rarity of the cover, Fine, The only recorded P.O.W. cover from Paducah Prison.
