1878-CC Type 2 Rev - Obv Fine; Rev Good. Very scarce in circulated condition per Bowers, most coins found are often in low grades. The weakly-struck Type 2 reverse often results in a two-grade difference between obv & rev and an unsatisfactory appearance. In Greer's book, a photo of the type 2 rev looks identical to the present coin. The mintmark is very weak but can be seen if the coin is tilted. (Image)

1885-S Fine detail and original in appearance but here are numerous small surface nicks on obv & rev. Bowers has opined that circulated coins of this issue are notorious for having "rough" surfaces, the cause of which is unknown. Greer notes that this issue is a series key in all grades. He also presents diagnostics for authenticity, the present coin conforming to all of them. An opportunity for the Seated Dime enthusiast! (Image)
