Norse-American Medal (1925) Silver Thick Planchet MS60+. Commemorates the 100th anniv of the voyage of the Restauration that brought many Norwegian immigrants to the US. Sculpted by Buffalo nickel designer James Earle Fraser, the medals (they were struck in Gold, Silver, & Bronze) recognize those immigrants' Viking heritage, depicting a warrior of that culture on the obverse and his vessel on the reverse. The medals also recall the early Viking explorations of North America. A seldom offered item. (Image)
