1882-CC MS63 in GSA box w/ papers. The subtle champagne toning on the rev of this coin that today would be looked upon as a positive feature, wasn't viewed as favorably in the 1970s when the GSA auctioned the government's Carson City hoard. This coin was offered in the "Mixed CC Dollars" category instead of the "Uncirculated" category despite being a fully mint-state coin. The rev toning is the likely reason. Bidders could obtain "Mixed CC Dollars" for $15 each, whereas the "Uncirculated" coins required a starting bid of $30 or more. (Image)
