1850-O Liberty NGC AU55. In their "Encyclopedia of US Gold Coins" authors Garrett and Guth say this about 1850-O Quarter Eagles: " . . . . . the most interesting feature of this issue is the extremely poor quality of the strike on most known examples. The date is scarce in all grades and only a few are offered for sale most years. This date is VERY RARE in full mint state . . . . . . " In light of the Garrett and Guth comments, the present example shows strong detail, even light wear consistent with its assigned grade, and has excellent original color.
