The "Scipio" was operated by Imperial Airways, on the Australia to UK route, crashed on landing at Mirabella Bay, Crete, and sank in a few minutes on Aug 22, 1936. Thirty eight bags of mail were rescued and dried out at the Greek Post Office at Athens, some being forwarded by the next Imperial Airways flight through Athens, arriving in London on Aug 25th, and the rest by rail via Paris, reaching London on Aug 27th or 28th.
