Cat No: Collection

image Australia, WWII Military Forces Mail, Correspondences & Censored Covers, several hundred covers predominantly made up of several correspondences (with contents) sent home by soldiers stationed at military camps within Australia during WWII. There is also a handful of WWI covers. Many items are honor envelopes on YMCA, Salvation Army and Comfort Fund envelopes and have a wide variety of FPO, Naval and Military Camp postmarks with many Australian Imperial Forces censor markings and Concessional Rate handstamps. Most of the value is to be found in a group of about 170 covers with many scarce datestamps described and organized according to Proud's publication History of the Australian Military Postal Services. This group includes covers from far-flung Australian bases, Papua & New Guinea, Japan, Palestine and Egypt. Small range of covers mostly going to the late 1950s which appear to be from Australian forces stationed abroad in Asia. Also included is a small group of about 30 censored commercial covers to the US, Europe and New Zealand. Condition runs the gamut from fine to faulty as is to be expected for similar wartime related lots and correspondences. Lot worthy of further inspection and could provide hours of interesting research, especially the correspondences for military- and wartime-related content. Shipping charges apply - weight 8.2 lbs. Cat No: Collection

image Australia & States, 1850-1956, dealer's stock of better issues, neatly arranged and identified on black retail cards, including
New South Wales ($1,925), with #1 (used, 3½ margins, $725), #2e (used, 4 margins, $675), #28a (used, 3½ margins, $175), #44 (o.g., hinge remnant, Fine, $350);
Queensland ($6,467), with #1 (used, 4 margins, tiny thin, $1,050), #2 (used, 3½ margins, tiny rub, $2,250), #4 (mint, o.g., V.G., $2,750);
South Australia ($2,000), with #8 (used, 4 margins, $200), #9 (used, 3 margins, faults, $500) and 4 proofs;
Tasmania ($1,240), with #4 (used, 3½ margins, $1,000), #86-93 (mint, o.g., $240);
Victoria ($275);
Western Australia ($3,430), with #1 (x3 used, 3½ margins or 3 margins, $275 each), #3 (x2 used, 3 margins, $275 each), #4 (used, 4 margins, $900), #16 (used, 3 margins, tiny thin, $875);
Australia ($926).
Condition tends to be typical of the period: V.G.-Fine for 19th century, F.-V.F. for 20th century. There are occasional small faults in the 19th century issues. Many very scarce and very salable stamps here at a very reasonable price - all are imaged on the web.

Lot No: 1094

Cat No: 2

image 1860, Queen Victoria "Chalon Head", 2d blue, imperf (Scott 2), Large Star watermark, folded letter sheet franked with what appears to be an imperforate 2d Chalon Head with bold color and close or just-in margins, tied by an "87" bootprint cancel; possibly a perf 14-16 stamp (#5) with perforations removed, as both varieties were delivered and issued at the same time; what makes this a truly remarkable item are the postmarks on the back, comprising Ipswich NSW (NO 27 1860), Drayton NSW (NO 28) and Dalby NSW (NO 29)—placing this cover within the first month of the stamp's issue (only a small number of covers have an earlier November 1860 postmark, and this cover is not listed in the census of pre-UPU Queensland covers); hole in addressee's name of no real consequence, otherwise Very Fine, and perhaps an exceptional rarity; sold "as-is".

image London Crystal Palace: Award-Winning Four-Frame Exhibit & Supporting Documentation, Mostly early 20th century postcards and photos but also including drawings including about 170 illustrations, and maps illustrating the history of the Crystal Palace, the events held in it, its visitors and all things connected to the Palace. Originally a five-frame exhibit, it is now missing frame 1; frame 3 has 17 pages and is missing one item, frame 4 has only 15 pages, frames 2 and 5 appear complete (the owner seems to have been in the midst of re-arranging this exhibit). The documentation includes three large volumes, one a profusely illustrated book on the Palace in the 1850s, another lists the postcards known to have shown the Palace, while the third is about the Postal History of the Palace. In addition, 22 issues of the "Crystal Palace Matter" journal and various notes and sundry items. Very fine condition. Great group to build upon, break up for resale or enjoy as it is.
