"Muddy Creek, Col., May 12th 73". Manuscript postmark and matching ms. cancels 3¢ green (147) on yellow cover to Lancaster, Pa., with lengthy and interesting original enclosure datelined "Grinevas Ranch" regarding receiving mail at Muddy P.O. rather than Greenhorn, cattle branding and…Kit Carson the famous Indian fighter figured in this immediate vicinity. Have met his sister in law & been shown the scene of some of his exploits. The Ute tribe of Indians are nearest to us about 50 miles away. They are not hostile at present but there is talk of a general Indian outbreak during the coming summer., mentions party of 150 Ute at Pueblo selling Buffalo skins, beaver and mink in the Grinevas river, etc.; cover slightly reduced at left, Very Fine,ex-Bauer.
