Predominantly postally used non-philatelic and commercial mail with a small amount of philatelic First Day Covers or Special Event items. Includes Censored mail, Registered mail, Express mail, Airmails, illustrated postal cards, multiples on cover and high frankings which have been sent to a large variety of destinations, with some postmark interest. Time period ranges from late 19th century South African States period to the 1980s with most in the 1930s to 1950s. South Africa, Illustrated Postal Card Collection, 1930s-80s, a few hundred different cards from the 1930s to the 1980s to modern nicely presented and written-up on exhibit pages in three binders. Write-up traces the development and usage of the various series of these illustrated postal cards. One volume contains the early ½d Springbok, 1d Van Riebeck's Ship, 1½d Tiger, 2d Zebra and 1½c Bull issues (H&G #10 to 45) on bi-colored cards. The other two volumes include the multicolored issues of the 1½c Bull, 3c Bird, 3c Flower, Fruits, Dams, Rugby, Rhinos, Raptors and others. Sets include views of architecture, tourist sites, natural landscape, wildlife, birds, flowers etc. Wide range of issues & views with lots of Thematic interest, quite a number postally used including uprated for Airmail, with some postmark interest also, generally Fine to Very Fine.
