"2d", plus 1954-67 group of philatelic covers QEII commemorative or Wilding frankings used abroad (disallowed in Colombo/Australia/Switzerland, Paquebot in Hawaii), bisected (1965 pair with disallowed halves of the same Wilding 8d + 1967 Machin trisected 9d pair - one allowed), and commemoratives chopped into various pieces (5 disallowed - 2 with letters ex PO - and 7 allowed!). image THE DAVID TRAPNELL COLLECTION OF CRAZY QEII MACHIN POSTCARDS - INC. A SHIRT, A TIE, SHORTS, A 'BRICK', PITTA BREAD, ETC.; 1983-93 group of extremely unusual items (all clearly marked "POST CARD" as per regulations) with mainly Machin frankings (with cds or manuscript cancels - almost all tied) genuinely and successfully sent through the post as postcards to test the patience (and sense of humour) of the Post Office. Mainly sent to/from London and rural Gloucestershire. They include a large 1983 folded paper napkin (12½p commem.), 1983 gents tie & cotton-reel (each with 12½p Machin & m/s cancel), 1984 4cm-thick PC-sized piece of polystyrene (12½p Machin with cds), 1991 complete gent's shirt (franked on collar with Machin 4p+10p beside 20p P Dues pair), 1993 2.65kg (!) "HEAVY POST CARD" sent 1st Class with Machin 50p + Castles £1+£5 (all tied by cds's), 1993 intact oval pitta bread with Machin "2nd" tied by cds, 1992/3 quartet each with Machin 18p (3) or 2nd Class tied by d.s. to Bonio dog biscuit, small hedgehog-shaped hairbrush, small empty oval box and complete wind-up furry mouse (!!); plus 1995 pair of ladies denim shorts endorsed "ZIPPA EXPRESS POST CARD" with 1p Machin + 41p + 25p commems all tied by oval d.s. (with 25p P Due label). Also 2014 single large bubble-pack unit endorsed "AERATED POSTCARD" with "2nd" Machin (uncancelled) plus Cert. of Posting, and silver glue sachet "LIQUID POSTCARD" (same stamp - m/s cancel). Along with the piece de resistance; 1993 certificate of posting (with Machin 18p tied by cds) for "one INVISIBLE POST CARD" along with David's 1994 letter of complaint to the P.O. about its non-delivery and the P.O.'s official reply asking for a photocopy of the lost item to enable them to look into the matter... Exceptional lot several items of which have won the legendary S.P.H. 'Eggcup Competition'. Arguably, David is the latter-day Reginald Bray. Unique lot!
