Cat No: footnote after No. 8

image Cape of Good Hope. The Elusive 4d. Black Triangular. Perkins Bacon 4d. black, two good margins at foot and left, cutting into design slightly at right, light cancellation leaving the design clear, small surface abrasion at lower left corner which has been touched in very lightly, mentioned for strict accuracy only though barely affects the fine appearance of this elusive stamp of which there are only twelve examples known. An incredibly rare opportunity to aquire this great rarity . B.P.A. Certificate (1982). S.G. footnote after No. 8, £35,000Note: It was at one time, believed that these stamps came from a small supply printed in black to mark the death of the Prince Consort, but references to examples can be found in the philatelic press before news of the event reached Cape Town.. It is now thought that these stamps represent proof sheets, possibly pressed into service during a shortage of stamps in 1861.. . provenance:. Baron Stig Leuhusen. Rarities of the World, David Feldman, November 2009 (Image1)
