Lot No: 1094

Cat No: 2
1860, Queen Victoria "Chalon Head", 2d blue, imperf (Scott 2), Large Star watermark, folded letter sheet franked with what appears to be an imperforate 2d Chalon Head with bold color and close or just-in margins, tied by an "87" bootprint cancel; possibly a perf 14-16 stamp (#5) with perforations removed, as both varieties were delivered and issued at the same time; what makes this a truly remarkable item are the postmarks on the back, comprising Ipswich NSW (NO 27 1860), Drayton NSW (NO 28) and Dalby NSW (NO 29)—placing this cover within the first month of the stamp's issue (only a small number of covers have an earlier November 1860 postmark, and this cover is not listed in the census of pre-UPU Queensland covers); hole in addressee's name of no real consequence, otherwise Very Fine, and perhaps an exceptional rarity; sold "as-is". SG 2. Scott $1,950 off-cover. (Image)
