image German Area, Mint & Used Collection with History Lesson, 1849-1948, A dated but beautifully-made and compelling homemade album providing a thorough overview of German philately from its early beginnings as fragmented states to the end of the Third Reich. Well-illustrated and annotated in German with sections on the States, the Kaiserreich, Weimar Republic, Third Reich, Colonies, Plebiscites, Allied & Soviet Zones, and countries with regions having previously belonged to Germany, such as Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Denmark. No great rarities but numerous stamps in the $10-30 range; some material too you don't see every day, like locals from Bochum and Hamburg, telegraph stamps from the North German Confederation and Bavaria, and Hamburg and Heligoland cut squares. image 1872, Imperial Eagle, 2kr Small Shield plus 3kr Large Shield (Scott 8, 23), attractive mixed franking tied on piece by "Bühl/22/JUL/6-8N" cancels, the 2kr orange Small Shield vertical pair with especially nice centering and perforations; all bright and clean with clear emboss, the 2kr pair less common (color change of April 1872), Very Fine, with 2002 Sommer certificate.
