Schuyler J. Rumsey Philatelic Auctions Sale: 94

General Foreign
Mexico - 1866 Emperor Maximilian

Sale No: 94
Lot No: 2576
Symbol:
Cat No: 34R

image Mexico, 1866, Emperor Maximilian (engraved), 50c defaced reproduction plate. Steel engraved printing plate showing a single very similar image of 50c Maximilian engraved issue, with M.E.P.S.I. certificate stating that it is of unknown origin and not the original government plate which printed the original stamp, plate does not appear to be the one used for known forgeries, so maybe it was produced for printing catalogs, albums or training engravers, design shows a crossing line at center, includes one recent print in black from the plate, Very Fine, a very unusual item that would be an interesting and eye-catching addition to a specialized collection or exhibit, with 2020 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.
