image Ecuador, 1865, ½r Blue. Intermediate impression. Clear to large margins, tied by "Quito, Franca, 3 Abril, 69" cds with second strike alongside on cover to Paris, France paying the internal postage to Guayaquil, routed via British P.O. with "Guayaquil, Ap 10, 1869" double arc cds and red London transit on reverse, bold boxed "GB, 1F90c" accountancy handstamp and "12" decimes due handstamp applied upon arrival; trivial cover edge wear and non-contemporary sticker at lower left, Very Fine, letters from Ecuador to destinations in Europe bearing the first issue as part payment of the postage are very rare, ex-Berkinshaw-Smith and Goeggel, with 1992 Holcombe and Moorhouse certificates.

Of 23 covers and four fronts; with 1872 Second Issue consisting of four ½r solo usages including Judicial wrapper usages from Quito (red fancy P.I. handstamp canceling) and Riobamba, also a 1879 usage to Paris, France, fifteen 1r usages with pair usages to Valparaiso, Chile and Cincinnati, Ohio, other larger multiple usages on Judicial wrappers, solo usage on 1877 cover to Paris, France, two singles on 1875 cover to New York City, also six ½r+1r combination usages including combination tied by the rare blue "De Oficio" boxed handstamp, and highlighted by a 1p rose + ½r blue combination usage to Bordeaux, France, Third Issue usages (7 items) representing the first four issues including a three color franking on Judicial wrapper and two combination usages with the 1r second issue, Very Fine.
