image China, The Costenoble Correspondence, 1924-32, fascinating selection of 19 items that served as the basis for a feature article in the January and March 1958 issues of The China Clipper; the lot comprises 13 covers plus six pieces, all addressed to Kansu Province (mostly to Chungwei) during the years of 1924-32, with all items bearing Chinese stamps overprinted for use in Sinkiang (!), some of them cancelled "Chungwei" and forwarded to Hu-Tu-Pi; also included is the manuscript for the original articles, as well as November 1957 correspondence with Alexander Dickie, editor of the Clipper, Fine to Very Fine, truly a mystifying collection, to be sure, examine.
