Cat No: 37d

image 1870 3c Copper Red Small Queen, Perforated 12½, unused (no gum) with deep rich colour and nicely centered with a few tiny black flecks on surface, fine-very fine. Accompanied by 1983 RPSL certificate and 2009 Greene Foundation certificate (“unused, genuine, but soiled and numerous black flecks across stamp” – in our opinion a harsh description). Ex. “JAL” and Vadeboncoeur. Only nine mint or unused examples of the 3c perf 12½ are recorded. Of these, several are quite poorly centered and/or have faults (thins, tears and missing perfs). Taking into consideration the overall condition of this stamp, this is arguably the second or third finest example with only the ex-Julian Smith and Daniel Cantor example (sold for $11,500+15% in our 2015 sale of the Cantor collection) and the superlative ex-Dr. Clare Jephcott and Bill Simpson example (sold for $25,000+18% in 2019) being equal or finer to the example in the “Outaouais” collection. Rsv. $7,000. (Image)

Cat No: 38a

image 1875 5c Slate Green Small Queen, Perforated 11½ x 12, mint with full original gum, never hinged. A very fresh stamp which has wonderful centering and is extremely fine. A difficult stamp to find in such lovely quality. Accompanied by a 2007 Richard Gratton AIEP certificate and a photocopy of the stunning block of six from which it came. The 5c perforated 11-1/2x12 is one of the most challenging of all Small Queens to locate in premium quality. Its rarity can be traced back to the fact that only a few of the early 5c printings had this perforation measurement, and very few were saved by collectors or otherwise not used. This printing normally displays unevenly applied gum with streaks and/or bubbles, and the example contained in the “Outaouais” collection displays these characteristics. A true condition rarity for the connoisseur. (Image)

image Old Time Collection of 3c Small Queen Postmarks, tucked away by the owner in the 1960s, this small album contains a very nice collection, mostly sorted by type of postmark, with town cancels (mostly fully dated and collected by year), a very nice Prince Arthur Street Montréal c.d.s., a March 1870 date, a lovely strike of Windsor squared circle with inverted PM, obliterators, coloured postmarks, corks (mostly segmented and starburst types), flags, a 2-ring 50, a few dated Oxbow ASSA datestamps, an Ebenezer ASSA datestamp, page of RPOs, rollers, two strikes of #16 in NB grid, etc. We estimate there to be about 475 hinged stamps plus a packet probably containing another 100 or so. See scans for an idea, inspect to better appreciate. (Image)
