1868 15c Large Queen Old Time Reference Collection of Papers, with 13 stamps (incl. a pair), annotated in calligraphy with all the shade names and paper characteristics. We note better items such as a #30c (thick paper, with tiny thin), a 29c (very well centered, clearly showing "CLU" of the Bothwell watermark), a horizontal pair identified by owner as the "Pirie Paper" (although we did not see a watermark, and it appears to perf 12) as well as some perf 11½ x 12 stamps. The roman numerals used to identify the papers appear to be those used by L. Gerald Firth in his "groups", listed on pages 41-44 of his 1963 publication Canada the fifteen cents of 1868. We have removed the stamps from their original album page (included in lot) as they had been mounted face side down, but have kept all the descriptions next to them (see scan). Some faults noted and centering ranges from fine to very fine. A very useful reference group for the specialist. (Image)
