image 1851 12d Black Queen Victoria Imperforate on Laid Paper, used with (slightly lightened) centrally struck target cancel, with four margins including including part of the next stamp at top and a large sheet margin at right. In fact, the Siegel census does not list another used stamp with a wide sheet margin. This lovely stamp shows strong laid lines, not only on the back but also on the front, very fine. It is estimated that only about one third of the used examples of this stamp are sound.

image 1859 6d Grey Violet Consort, Perforated 11¾, unused (no gum), a lovely example of this scarcer shade with full and intact perforations, fresh and fine-very fine. The rarity of mint or unused perforated 6d in the grey violet share cannot be understated. They are significantly rarer than the “regular” brown violet shade despite having the same catalogue value. The 6d in grey violet is typically part of the last half dozen stamps remaining on serious want lists. This specific example is one of the finest available to collectors. It might be a long time before a comparable example comes to the market.
