Two Different ST JOHN NB Straightline Postmarks, first is a lovely 1826 folded stampless cover with "ST JOHNS NB" (error spelling, JGY #16) datelined Lebanon CT and endorsed Columbia CT with "Paid 25" ms, mailed to Annapolis Nova Scotia "via Robinston Washington Co.", rated 7d (border to St John NB) and then 4½d by ship across the Bay of Fundy, for a total of 11½d due. A rare and fascinating letter, ex. Allan Steinhart. Second item is an undated folded cover (no contents) with corrected "ST JOHN NB" straightline, endorsed "On Service", rated 7 to Fredericton. According to Jephcott, Green and Young this is known used only in 1828 and rated RF 8 (rare). A fine to very fine group. (Image)
