image Set of King George V Stationery Press Proof Sheets, with twelve 17 x 22 inch sheets, plus four 8½ x 10 buff-coloured Manila pages. There is a pencil notation on the Kraft paper cover reading "Press Proofs / B.B. Note Co. / Die Embossed Plates / 1/2/1923". Each of the larger sheets has twenty embossed postal impressions featuring King George V facing left, spaced approximately 3 3/4 inches apart, with the appropriate coloured numbers (orange, green and brown) just below each inked impression (numbered 1 to 20), and there are also some albino embossed impressions on other sheets. The impressions are of the heavily embossed dies used in preparation of the 1c orange, 2c green and 3c brown stationery envelopes (Unitrade U25, 27 30, Webb EN26, 28 and 31). The contents are as follows: page 1-2 (1c orange fully embossed), page 3-4 (1c complete albino impressions with no numbers), page 5-6 (2c green fully embossed), page 7-8 (2c fully ebossed with no numbers), page 9-10 (3c brown fully embossed), page 11-12 (complete albino impressions with no numbers) and the four smaller pages contain colour and albino impressions of the 3c brown. These pages have been stored rolled tightly, and would benefit from being carefully flattened-out, as they have become brittle with time. A very rare and perhaps unique find. (Image)
