"Lafar" maker's mark punched on reverse, round hole at top for suspending around the neck of the slave, natural patina and some green verdigris, Fine and rare.

Although the practice of hiring out slaves was commonplace, Charleston was the only town that required that these slaves wear tags and that the owners be licensed for them.
