USA SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR COVERS
Includes 13 uncensored Oregon & Colorado Volunteer soldiers letters during the 1898-1901 Philippines Expedition and one 1910 letter from a Canadian Volunteer. From the Kevin Lowther collection as published in the January-February 2020 "American Stamp Collector" Journal. The historic uncensored letters describe the conditions, military engagements, casualties, and moral where 5000 USA soldiers were up against 30,000 Philippine insurgents (technically freedom fighters) after the Spanish gave up the Islands without a fight. This was the highly debated Military Expedition that ultimately convinced the USA to abandon the European style Colonial systems and instead negotiate powerful economic treaties. The section concludes with 4 covers from the Cuba Expedition 1898-1905.
