Large negative circle handstamp with date in manuscript, traces at top of what may be "Paid 10" on cover to Edgefield County S.C. with red and blue 8-Star Confederate Flag Patriotic design (F8-9), "A. Dapremont publisher, N.O." imprint, missing backflap and nicked at top, overall a bit war worn, still a rare example of this design with the Dapremont imprint, this is the same design as F7-6 with the eighth star added to the center, the few other examples we have encountered lack the imprint, Dapremont was famously responsible for the "Our Flag SC" Patriotic labels, ex Antrim (Image)

Trooper Armstrong of the 9th Arkansas Regiment in Columbus Ky., with red and blue 8-Star Confederate Flag with Tassels Patriotic design (F8-12), "Politeness of Mr. Whitly" at bottom, light waterstaining around edges, small tear at left, otherwise Fine, a very rare 8-Star Flag Patriotic design and equally rare sent between Arkansas and Confederate occupied Kentucky, illustrated in C.S.A. Huntsville Ala. Jul. 17 1861. Clear strike of blue circular datestamp with matching "PAID" and "10" handstamps on cover to military address in Winchester Va. with red and blue 9-Star Confederate Flag and Liberty Cap Patriotic design (F9-1), reduced at right, small repair at top right

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE MOST ELUSIVE OF THE 9-STAR FLAG PATRIOTIC DESIGNS.

The ninth star represents the admission of Arkansas, which was followed only three days later by North Carolina. Due to the short time period there were fewer 9-Star Confederate Patriotic designs produced than any other flag design (7 thru 13 stars). Surviving examples are rare and are normally found with the F9-2 design. This flag (F9-1) is on a similar order of rarity to the other listed 9-Star design (F9-4).

VERY FINE AND EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THIS 9-STAR CONFEDERATE FLAG PATRIOTIC USED FROM FLORIDA. ONLY TWO EXAMPLES FROM FLORIDA ARE RECORDED.

VERY FINE. THIS 9-STAR CONFEDERATE FLAG IS ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL CIVIL WAR PATRIOTIC DESIGNS. TO FIND IT USED FROM FLORIDA AND TURNED WITH A GENERAL ISSUE STAMP IS EXTRAORDINARY.
