The Dr. Robert B. Pildes Collection of Israel 1948 Doar Ivri Issue continued...

Postage Dues
Lot Sym. Lot Description
2124 TC ImageISRAEL, 1948, 10m Postage Due, Trial Color Plate Proofs (Bale ED.51-ED.57). Complete set of the seven different colors in top right margin plate no. 1 blocks of four, (Gray Green color is a plate block of six), Mint N.H., all but the Gray Green with printer's initials on gum, fresh colors, a few minor imperfections (Gray Green with small scratches at bottom and a couple with faint toning)

VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE AND LIKELY UNIQUE SET OF THE 10-MIL POSTAGE DUE TRIAL COLOR PROOF PLATE BLOCKS IN ALL SEVEN COLORS.

The 10-mil was the only value that was produced in trial color plate proofs. There were seven distinct color and paper combinations. It is believed only three sheets of each color were printed. However, only one other of each value is known in plate block form, except the Dark Green on Emerald, which three are known. We do not know if the other set of seven is intact in one collection. If not, the set offered here would be the only intact set of plate blocks available.
