VERY FINE APPEARING THREE-COLOR 1861 ISSUE COVER TO BOMBAY, INDIA.

This was prepaid at the 39c rate for British Mail via Marseilles. It was carried on the Cunarder Canada from Boston on Feb. 1 and arrived at Queenstown on Feb. 15 (Image)

Pkt. 16 May 40" credit datestamp on buff cover to Bombay, India, red London transit datestamp of May 27 ties pair, "1d" British Colonial credit handstamp, Boston Paid backstamp, cover with some acidification at right affecting the stamps, 12c with blunted perfs at top, appears Fine, prepaid for the 72c rate by Bremen-Hamburg Mail via Marseilles, however the exchange office routed it by British Mail via Marseilles (45c rate with 40c credit to Great Britain), carried on the Cunarder Scotia, departing New York on May 17 and arriving Queenstown May 26 (Image)
