2c Pan-American, Preliminary Pencil Drawing of Frame on Tracing Paper (295-E1). 108 x 82mm design size on slightly larger tracing paper mounted on card, issued 2c stamp mounted inside blank area for vignette, signed "R. Ostrander Smith 1-9-0-0", frame is very similar to the one on issued stamp with some differences in side ornaments, upper right corner unfinished, some flaws at bottom due to the fragile nature of the paper are inconsequential

THIS IS THE UNIQUE HAND-DRAWN PRELIMINARY FRAME ESSAY BY R. OSTRANDER SMITH FOR THE 2-CENT PAN-AMERICAN ISSUE. AN OUTSTANDING ITEM OF THE ISSUE AND OF ESSAY-PROOF COLLECTING.

Large-size note depicting bison, Lewis & Clark and allegorical figures at sides which match the 2c Pan-American Issue frame, light quartered folds, crisp and Very Fine, a nice Pan-American collateral piece engraved by R.
