VERY FINE. AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE 2-CENT "LINE RATE" USE FROM MORRISTOWN, NEW YORK, TO BROCKVILLE, CANADA, DIRECTLY ACROSS THE ST. LAWRENCE RIVER.
The so-called Line Rate of 1d or 2c between adjoining towns along the U.S.-Canadian border was discussed in the 1863 U.S. Mail and Post Office Assistant, but seems not to have been widely understood and used only sporadically given the rarity of surviving covers. Most known examples are to and from New Brunswick. This Morristown-Brockville use is very rare.
