VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE PHILADELPHIA DESPATCH POST STRIDING MESSENGER STAMP USED ON COVER. ISSUED IN 1843, THIS IS THE WORLD'S FIRST PICTORIAL STAMP. IT IS ESPECIALLY RARE TIED BY A POSTAL MARKING.

This cover comes from a new find. The Chester Pa. datestamp and "forwarded" notation are present without any indication of the forwarding address or additional postage charge. (Image)
