859 og SG 1-15E,O1-14E image1923 overprinted "KOWEIT" instead of "Kuwait", the unissued trial overprints, complete set of 27 (14 Postage and 13 Service), l.h., mostly v.f., with 2014 BPA certificate. One of premier rarities of the British Empire - produced in early 1923, these were prepared prior to adopting the name change from "Koweit" to "Kuwait" for postal purposes and making it closer to the pronunciation in Arabic. Two panes of 12 each were printed in Calcutta. First pane was broken-up, a set of blocks of four now resides in the Royal Collection, two sets were sent to the then Viceroy and one set to the Deputy Director General. The second pane was obtained by a London dealer, therefore, no more than 17 sets could be in private hands and there is a good chance that less are available to collectors today.
