65, Tied by double-ring Washington DC 13 Sept 1862 CDS on cover to Vermont. Has illustrated patriotic cachet depicting GEORGE WASHINGTON and "SPIRIT OF 76" banner. This cover is one of the earliest uses of the slogan "Spirit of 76" to be found prior to the Centennial Exhibition held in 1876. Cover is repaired at left & other flts.
