Toole Resignation Telegraph to Tucson, on "War Department,/Signal Service U.S.A.—United States Telegraph." form, dated "Apache 30 1879", received Tucson May 2 (delay due to Apaches having cut the telegraph lines, the form delivered by military express horseback) from Tucson Mayor James H. Toole to Charles R. Drake, a City Council member, Toole announcing his resignation as Mayor: "I have to return to this place and perhaps go to Santa Fe. I send my resignation as mayor. Present to next regular meeting. Call election. H.S. Stevens good candidate." Drake penciled a note to Stevens urging him to run and "not let the office go into the hands of the Jews". "30paid" noted at end of Toole's message. Form with splits along folds, accompanied by "United States Military Telegraph" cover noting "Paid" in manuscript. 351 cover 1850.0218 image1850 (Feb. 18), Stampless cover from Oosoola to Augusta, Maine, a beautifully clean strike of red "Oosoola/Feb/[18]/Maine" postmark with matching "5" at right, on pre-printed form certifying Dimon Taylor as Justice of the Peace for Somerset County; addressed to the Secretary of State in Augusta; form/cover fresh and clean; vertical file fold through address panel, piece missing from side of form due to mailing seal, but otherwise sound, Very Fine. The finest Oosoola cover known (S/R 7), ex Hazelton. (Image)

352 cover 1854.1211 image1854 (Dec. 11), Folded letter sheet to Brigham Young from Tooele City, UT, letter from Eli B. Kelsey, President of the Tooele Branch of the Church, to "President B. Young" at "GSL City"; straightline manuscript postmark with "paid 3cts" and date below; letter's contents refer to several payments made to the Church, one regarding subscriptions made for "provision for the emigration", one to a gentleman's partial repayment of his debt in wheat, with a promise to pay the rest in potatoes; exterior clean, some staining and multiple tears on interior folds, but an early Mormon postal history item, Fine to Very Fine.
