1182 cover   image1909 (June 23), Hamburg South Sea Expedition, 1d postal card postmarked Raratonga, 21 Jun 1909; the card, which was written and signed by Expedition leader, Georg Friederici, bears the oval handstamp "Hanseatische Südsee Expedition" and is datelined "Atiu, Cook Inselir, 23. 6. 09" and sent to Altona, Hamburg, Very Fine. Very Rare.


From 1908 to 1910 Friederici, a German ethnologist, led expeditions to Bismarck Archipelago, German and Dutch New Guinea and the English and French possessions of the Pacific.
