Envelope, 1853, Nesbitt 1st Issue, 3¢ red, "THREE" in short label with curved ends (Scott U1), a clean mint size 7 entire with watermark 1; indicia apparently somewhat under-inked, light thin (approximately 26x10mm) not affecting indicia, otherwise Very Fine, with 2023 P.F. certificate. Ex-Wunsch.

Envelope, 1853, Nesbitt 1st Issue, 3¢ red on buff, "THREE" in short label with straight ends (Scott U4), entire, an appealing two-country franking, stated to be the earliest recorded use of a US entire to a foreign destination; the indicium weakly inked, cancelled by manuscript cross and straightline "PAID" handstamp; manuscript "2/" and red handstamped "3" ratings; addressed to Gainsborough, Lincolnshire and forwarded to London, the British domestic postage paid by 1d red brown on bluish paper (#3) tied by barred numeral cancel; with British red "PAID/AP/22OC22/1853" and blue Gainsborough broken-ring postmark (Oct. 23) on front, a second, same-day Gainsborough postmark on reverse; faults, including a horizontal crease through the Queen Victoria adhesive, but an important cover (and still oddly attractive), Fine.
