Switzerland
LotNo. Symbol CatNo. Lot Description
2729   imageSwitzerland, Awe-inspiring Mint & Used Stock from the Land of Chocolate, 1846-2010, Absolutely incredible holding of 20 counter books from a long-time stamp dealer who specialized in Switzerland, and stored in an old suitcase, which would not look out of place in the museum at Ellis Island. Virtually all in Scott catalogue order along with equivalent Zumstein numbers. Begins with two cantonal stamps, Geneva #2LU1 as an unused cut-out and a used Zurich 1L4, along with an exceptional array of Rayons and Strubels, many with four margins, some signed and/or with certificates. Powerful mint too including bountiful Sitting & Standing Helvetias and many key stamps never hinged. Mint highlights include #21-22, 24, 30, 35-38, 41 (2), 43a (2), 43b, 75 (2), 76a (4), 78, 81, 82a (4), 83 (3), 83b, 84, 84a (4), 84b, 86, 87, 88b (3), 97 (2), 109, 109a, 110 (3), 110a (2), 111 (3), 111a, 112a (3), 118 (4), 135a-44a, 145 (6), 172c, 181, 182 (10), 184 (6), 185 (8), 206 (4), 226 (2), 293-305 (4), B2-3 (blocks), B2a (2), B143 (3), B144 (4), B206 (5), C1 (6), C3-12, 1O1-08 (2), 5O6-25 (3), 7O1-20 (2). The used is no less mind-blowing with many high-value stamps in copious amounts. Better used include 2, 7a (2), 8 (33), 10 (33), 11 (4), 12 (21), 15-16 (7), 17-19 (3), 20 (3), 21 (10), 22 (12), 23 (7), 24 (10), 26 (5), 27 (pair), 27a, 28 (4), 29 (6), 30 (10), 31 (6), 31a, 32A-33 (3), 34 (4), 35 (7), 36 (3 pairs & strip of 3), 38 (33), 39 (18), 40 (36), 42 (7), 48 (13), 50 (18), 50a (8), 50b (2), 52a (8), 56a, 58 (8), 59 (16), 63, 64 (5), 65 (8), 67-68, 77-78 (4), 81 (11), 87b (4), 89 (9), 91 (8), 92 (6), 93 (12), 108a (8), 111 (3), 114 (13), 121a (9), 125 (8), 136a (14), 293-305 (2), B143 (2), B144 (2), B206 (2), C2 (2), C11a, 2O1-30, 2O56, 3O1-26, 5O6-25, 7O1-20, as well as officials in blocks with perforated cross (OA19-27). Also, rarely-seen semi-official airmails, such as the following by Zumstein number: mint IVa, V, XI (2), and used III (2, one on piece), V (on piece). One volume houses Scott-unlisted material, like various Zusammendrucke, coils with control number, and the 1912 semi-postal forerunners in all three languages (Zumstein I-III) including two more mint singles of the Italian stamps and three seldom-seen used copies of the stamp in German. Yet another volume has dozens of plate varieties, such as 308 with a missing spoke on the locomotive's rear wheel (Zumstein 277.2.01 with certificate) and 190 with the black print shifted to the right (Zumstein 143.1.11). It's not every day Swiss stock of this caliber comes along, and not even figuring in the modern material, the catalogue value is around the $275,000 mark. Land this holding and you'll be set for life! overall Fine to Very Fine, additional images online. Shipping charges apply - weight 22 lbs. 2730   imageSwitzerland, "Die Basler Taube" Stellar Mint & Used Stock with Many Big-Tag Items, 1845-2002, Ten binders of manila stocksheets with stamps in Scott catalogue order and generally MNH to the left, MH in the center, and used to the right. And the reason we gave this lot that particular title, there is in fact a genuine Basel Dove (#3L1) with an accompanying certificate. As a matter of fact, there are 23 other stamps with certificates, such as used 7a, 11, 63, 66 (3, each with certs), 67, 68, and this one binder alone catalogs at approximately $38,000. But wait, there's more, much more! Another binder of Rayons, Strubels, Sitting & Standing Helvetias and other classics could possibly even double that. To give you an idea, here are some used stamps and quantities from that binder: 19 (7), 20 (21), 21 (14), 22 (12), 23 (16), 24 (12), 26 (9), 29 (15), 30 (8), 31 (10), 32 (6), 33-34 (5), 35 (8), 42 (12), 48 (6), 50 (16), 58 (14), etc. Also, a complete MNH set of the 1912 Pro Juventute forerunners (Zumstein I-III) with certificate, along with another mint copy of the Italian stamp and two of the French, a page of identified forgeries, a binder strictly for officials with such better as mint 1O9-16 (signed Watzlawick), 5O6-25, 7O1-20, and used 5O6-25, 7O1-20. And if you're into varieties, there's quite a bit to sink your teeth into with a small box of "102" cards and circuit book pages filled with plate varieties, coils with control number, etc. and in one of the binders, a number of high-value items, such as the "blind eye" variety of the 30¢ Olympic Jubilee (Zumstein 261w.3.01). An absolutely incredible holding with catalogue value in the upper stratosphere, overall Fine to Very Fine, additional photos online but personal inspection still recommended. 2731   imageSwitzerland, "Uncommon Stock" Tantalizing & Highly Organized Mint & Used Holding, 1850-2019, Eight red boxes of "102" cards, each noted with Scott number (when there is one) and Zumstein equivalent, some of it your usual stock of mint & used sets & singles, but a lot of it out of the ordinary. And this should come as no surprise, as this dealer specialized in Switzerland and there are entire sections on railway stamps, gutter pairs, semi-postals with attached tab, coils, Framas, perfins, telegraph stamps, Hotelpost and Scott-unlisted varieties. And if you're looking for blocks, there's an entire box with not only premium mint, like #109a, 166, B9 (2), B18-20, B21-24, B25-28, C2, C11a, but a plethora of better used too, such as #93, 181-85, 189, 200-03, 210-15, 219-25, 227a-36a, 293-300, 302, B4-6, B12-14, B16-17, B20, B24, B32, B33-36, B37-40, B49-52, B61-64, B65-68, B77-79 (2), B90a, B96-99, B100-03, B133-36, B146-49, B191-95, B196-200, B201-05, J28a, J52a, S1a, and so on, and so on. Extensive Sitting & Standing Helvetias along with a wide range of variants, from paper and watermark types found in the Scott Classic to many plate flaws listed only in Zumstein or Michel and many cataloging 100's of CHF each. There's nearly an entire box on officials with such better as mint 1O1-08 (2, one set NH), 1O9-16 (3), and used 1O3, 1O6, 1O8. Many very scare gutter pairs, such as the following by Zumstein number: mint S8 (2), S9, S12 (2), S43, used S17, S44-46, S49Ay (4), S49Az (3). Other items not seen everyday include the official forerunners for the International Bureau of Education with ten mint/used examples, like Zumstein used IV (2) and VII on piece, telegraph stamps mint 1, 2 (2), 3, 9, 12, used 2, 8-9 (2), 10 (3), 11, 19, an excellent assortment of Framas including the world's first from 1976 with five complete sets mint and two used, very rarely-seen Hotelpost with two 4-margin copies of the Belalp 5¢ violet and others including Maderaner Tal, Rigi-Kaltbad and Kurort Stoos, a whole section on perfins notated by rarity level, and three copies of the 1871 Franchise forerunner. Swiss philately is not dead and there might not be a better time than now to invest in a country long-proven as a rock of cultural and economic stability, overall Fine to Very Fine, many additional photos online. 2732   imageSwitzerland, Powerful, Mainly Used Collection Balance, 1845-1971, Many hundreds in a packed Biella Album with blank pages added as needed. Loaded with high value stamps including (used unless noted) 1L2, 1L5, 2L2, 2L6 (one used one unused), 2LU1, 3L1 (three small margins, large thin), 1 (3), 2 (2), 8 (6), 10 (6), 11 & 13, followed by four pages of "Strubels" - more than 110 stamps and four covers - all allegedly identified by Scott number, but a large percentage incorrectly so. nonetheless, there a a number of nice stamps mixed in among the average examples. The rest of the book is pretty solidly filled with both Seated and Standing Helvetias - and virtually everything else - well represented. A few better numbers include (mint unless noted) #50 (2 used), 87 (LH), 189v (open "8", used, Zum. €400), NABA sheet (LH), B80 on cover (reduced margins), B143 (used & on cover), etc., etc. etc., with the Semi-Postals and Airmails being virtually complete, the Postage Dues and Officials more scattered (though we do note 1O1-1O16 mint LH). Now, as to condition: the Cantonals, Orts-Poste & Post-Locales are all faulty, though some are only moderately so and many at least appear F-VF; the Rayons are mixed but several are F-VF, and the "Strubels" are the same, with a good percentage being F-VF. From there on, just about everything is clean and F-VF, and there are lots of covers and nice plate varieties mixed throughout. All-in-all, a very worthwhile lot. Scott value is over $60,000. Believe it or not, there are even more highlights, like two Gedenkblätter from 1952 of telegraph stamp reprints as listed in Zumstein, a Kleinbogen of the 1940 Pestalozzi stamp in blue (MiNr. IV), which is a forerunner for the International Bureau of Education, eight full sheets of revenue stamps from the canton of Vaud, a page of souvenir sheet singles including the better ones, such as used B105a-d and seven mint & used singles from B143, and for some unexplained reason, a full used set of the Pax issue, but hey, we're not complaining!
