381 cover   image1860 (Sept. 14), Cover from Augusta, Maine, to St. Paul de Loando, West Coast of Africa [Luanda, Angola], addressed to Third Assistant Engineer aboard the USS Mohican, endorsed "Via England" at lower left; franked by 1857 10¢ (#35, pair and single) and single 3¢ rose (#25), cancelled by black circular grids (10¢ stamps tied), with Augusta postmark alongside and red crayoned "28" (credit to Great Britain) below; reverse with "Boston Br. Pkt./SEP/19", "A2/Liverpool/OC 1/60" and oval "L/OC 1/B" on reverse; carried on Cunard's America, Very Fine, a very rare destination for US mail at this date, the Mohican engaged on anti-slavery patrols.
