1936, Hindenburg, German Flight, signed Sammt plus note and five signatures on back (Sieger 402 B), of cover addressed to Germany franked with Germany 25pf Air mail and 75pf Zeppelin (Scott Nos. C50 & C58) tied by "Luftschiff LZ 129 23.3.36" double circle datestamp, the short note on the back presumably translates to "Carried on the LZ 129 "Hindenburg" on the Germany flight from 26 to 29 March 1936" and five signatures. We sent an image of the signatures to Patrick Russell (see his site http://facesofthehindenburg.blogspot.com/) and he commented "these don't look like crew signatures. My guess is, this cover was signed by some of the election commission workers who were tasked with dropping political leaflets and miniature souvenir swastika flags from the portholes in the lower tail fin. I have no way of confirming this, but since it was forbidden to drop anything out of the passenger observation windows out of concern that doing so might foul one of the propellers, I suspect this cover may well have been dropped (and probably signed) by the guys who were already dropping electioneering materials from the lower fin.", Very Fine and probably unique. 1936 Roundtrip Flight, Picture Postcard written and signed Walter Ziegler (Sieger 405 B), short message to a lady in Friedrichshafen on postcard with black & white image of two Zeppelins in flight (over Friedrichshafen? returning from a WWI era bombing raid over England?), with 50pf German Zeppelin (Scott No. C57) tied by "Luftschiff Hindenburg 4.5.36" circular datestamp; stamp slightly toned, card very slightly trimmed on all four sides, Extremely Fine.

According to http://facesofthehindenburg.blogspot.com/2009/03/captain-walter-ziegler.html, Captain Walter Ziegler was a watch officer on the Hindenburg's final flight. (He was) hired by the Deutsche Zeppelin Reederei on May 1st, 1935. With the DZR looking to train watch officers to command the fleet of airships which was expected to be built over the next several years, Ziegler quickly progressed from his initial station on the LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin as one of Chief Knorr's riggers, to stand watch as a helmsman, then as an elevatorman and finally, by the time the Hindenburg made her maiden flight on March 4, 1936, a navigator…Ziegler was also, according to Klaus Pruss (the son of the Hindenburg's commander Captain Max Pruss) one of three ranking members of the Nazi Party among the Hindenburg's crew, the others being Chief Engineer Rudolf Sauter and rudderman Helmut Lau. According to Pruss, Ziegler and the others were, however, dedicated airshipmen first and foremost. Accompanied by a modern copy of photo of Ziegler—the same photo of him giving a tour of the navigation room in the Hindenburg's control car—that appears on the same web page.
