This flight was arranged by the Nazi Propaganda Ministry to coincide with the visit of its Director Goebbels to Rome. The Graf Zeppelin departed Friedrichshafen at 24 minutes past midnight on May 29. In late afternoon, it flew over Naples where a small amount of mail was dropped. The Graf Zeppelin landed at 6:14pm at Rome's Ciampiano airport where King Victor Emmanual, Italy Balbo and Goebbels were among those who assembled for its arrival after a 17 hour and 50 minute flight covering 1,129 miles.
