Only 13 used examples are recorded. This pair was part of a strip of 9 (see next two lots) that was used on an Express Mail cover to Lancaster, CA. The strip, which was used with a 5¢ and two 45¢ stamps, made up the then-current $9.95 Overnight Express Mail rate. Dr. Greenwood removed the strip and sold this pair to a friend, re-acquiring it several years later.

The sale of this pair is provisional. The strip of 7 is offered provisionally in the next lot, and the pair plus the strip of 7 will then be offered together, along with original Express Mail envelope upon which the strip of nine was originally used (the other three stamps are no longer present). Unless we have a higher bid on the book, the total of the two bids for the pair and strip of 7 individually will be the starting bid for the combined lot. (Image) (Image2)
