221 cover 1939 imageCavernous Carter Cover, 1939, it took an 8x10 Postmaster General embossed envelope to hold 41 stamps totally $9.41; autographed by PMG James A Farley, this unique item left New York on June 24 and is marked FIRST FLIGHT-PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS and NORTHERN ROUTE with 1st NY to London in pencil; on this date the Yankee Clipper made the first Trans-Atlantic mail run to Southampton (FAM 18), in this case the only receiving mark in on return to the US when it reached Amon Carter's hometown of Ft Worth; Wow, Fine to Very Fine.
