Walker, Soap & Candle Makers, Pittsburgh, a gorgeous group of five items, comprising two multicolor illustrated advertising covers (one with matching letterhead featuring the company's manufacturing plant with an exotic red & black [Malay?] chicken as part of their trademarked logo), plus matching Invoice and Sight Draft, the latter bearing a 2¢ Battleship Documentary; each cover franked with a ¢ red (#279B) tied by a Pittsburgh machine cancel; the letter is a promotional piece for "Saponfield Red Oil"; also includes two 1908 picture postcards of the Incline Railway to Mt. Washington with a pictorial billboard at the base featuring Walker's Soap plus another from a different angle without the billboard; covers slightly reduced at right, one repaired at bottom left, the other toned at the bottom edge and slightly on the stamp, the letter is pristine. 199 cover Ocean Penny Post image1850 (Feb. 5), Ocean Penny Postage, Myers & Co. Design, from Worcester, MA, to Dundee, Scotland, State 1 without any imprint on back, mailed by famed 19th-century social activist Elihu Burritt (whose idea this was) in the United States to prominent theologian and social reformer Reverend Thomas Dick in Dundee, Scotland, with manuscript receipt docketing "Mr. Elihu Burritt, Worcester U.S., Feb. 5th 1850"; red handstamps "Paid" (2) and "19" credit handstamps, plus matching "America/Paid/FE 17/+50D/Liverpool" transit, along with pencil "24" rate all on front; reverse with blue Dundee FE 18 1850 receiver (a bit smudged); a few toned spots at top, but an attractive and appealing cover nonetheless-and an unusual American usage of this English cover, Very Fine, with 2022 P.F. certificate.
