1847 cover 20XU2 imageDalton, Ga., 1861, 10¢ black (Scott 20XU2), Very Fine strike (though partly off the cover) with a clear Dalton c.d.s., Sep 9, 1860, a handstamped "Due 3" on a "through-the-lines" cover with a clear Oct 23 Old Point Comfort, Va, c.d.s.; addressed to "Dr. W. Gus Evans, Care of Col Lidell, 11th Reg Miss Volunteers, Command of Stone Wall Jackson, In or about Washington D.C."; reduced somewhat at the top with top flap missing, otherwise Very Fine. Includes the original letter (multiple splits and repairs, but easily read) from the Post Surgeon at Dalton, who had recently transferred from the same job at Gunnel Hill. He talks of the problems in the new post and mentions a small pox outbreak. With a 2009 P.F. certificate.
