1733 O O71 imageState Dept., 1873, $20 green & black (Scott O71), This stamp is truly exceptional, boasting an extraordinarily rare magenta presentation manuscript cancel. The magnitude of its rarity is emphasized when observing the plethora of mint stamps available of the stamps certified by the PF, and comparatively scarce used examples. The stamp's uniqueness is further elevated by the inclusion of intact plate number selvage and original gum, which is unusual as the selvage was typically removed prior to use. Accompanying the stamp is a handwritten letter from Peter Robertson on official PF stationary, affirming its sound condition. The letter also acknowledges that certain inherent irregularities are to be expected in a 100-year-old stamp, and perfection cannot be anticipated., Fine to Very Fine, ex Shaff, with 1979 P.F. certificate and 1981 letter following up on original decision.
